Coaching: Private Focusing & TAE Sessions

Do you have an issue that needs some care? Maybe you’ve been noticing a pattern in yourself that feels ready for some attention, or an idea you’d love to pursue but can’t quite get into action on? Or maybe something else that longs for transformation? Together we can unpack your topic with Focusing during private sessions. In one-on-one sessions with me you’ll receive my deep listening and heart-felt presence. We can also explore with Thinking At the Edge, especially if you’re working on a creative project where your body has some wisdom to carry you forward, but you’re having trouble articulating it. My coaching services also dig into what results you’d like to achieve, and then we use your felt sense to inform your “just right next steps.”

I help people connect gently with themselves to hear what is longing to be seen and heard. And then the felt sense, our body knowing, takes it from there. We might spend time getting clarity about things, having the body’s creativity come through, or work on self-compassion, confidence or courage. I have a special passion for working with people concerned about the climate change and other environmental issues. In this space we can work on eco-anxiety and other climate emotions, sense into what self-care our bodies would find soothing, and tap in to what is ours to do in this crisis.

I invite you to explore the coaching package offerings I have below or to book a 1-hour session to have a first Focusing session with me. Coaching journeys can be combined and customized, and give you the benefit of having a the same time each week (or second week as you choose) for your sessions. You can also book a low-cost Focusing session with our PUPA Trainees.

5 Week PUP2A Journey.

Spend five weekly sessions exploring an issues or issues with Focusing or Thinking at the Edge. You can chose to do a mini-PUPA journey and stay with one issue, or work on whatever topic arrises for you during each session. The mini-PUPA journey includes pausing to get to know an issue, understanding it in an embodied way with your felt sense, allowing a way forward to come that shifts how you have the issue (permutation: physical shift and a paradigm shift), noticing what we need to do to and spend some time preparing, and finally taking action.

8Cs Journey.

Take one full PUPA journey privately. This entails unpacking one large issue in your life with Focusing and/or Thinking at the Edge over a period of eight one-hour sessions. Each session begins by getting in touch with a C quality of the 8Cs of Self-leadership. We then proceed to our Focusing session, bringing in the 8Cs qualities as needed to help catalyze your transformation. You can also explore this material in course format, with the Transform Yourself with the 8Cs of Self-Leadership course.

Your Story Journey.

In this private journey, we get to know some of your parts, creating a felt sense body card for each. Then, together we map your story: options include as a timeline of parts, mapping your nervous system, or an art project. Taking place over eight one-hour sessions, this is a private version of the Understanding Who You Are course.

Bespoke Journey.

This offering is a container to receive a customized journey to help you move from your current situation toward your desired life. Gain clarity about what you’d like to create in the world, unblock what is getting in the way and have support to find your “just right next step” as your experience carries forward into action. In addition to Focusing coaching, you can also receive some business advice.

  • “It was a pleasure working with Annette. She was highly supportive of me and created a warm, inviting space for exploration. Annette was great at listening carefully and was attentive to letting the pace of our sessions unfold however it would. Always responsive with a timely insight or thought-provoking question, Annette helped me discover new perspectives and make meaningful progress.”

  • "To be in a safe space and feel seen is a true gift. Annette allowed me to experience that feeling safe space inside myself. Annette is a gifted teacher and listener. I would highly recommend a session with her. "

  • "Keeping with one issue and continuing to revisit it each week is a whole new experience for me. A much needed step in my processing. Getting to know my 8Cs has been such a resource for me. For example, I reviewed my 8Cs body cards yesterday when my energy was wonky and it was SO helpful to have the visuals!!!!! I was so happy to see how easily my state was able to shift. I just feel my time with Annette has aided me in coming out of a deep stuck funk I had been in. I'm aware of so much energy, awareness and insights now (and what autonomic nervous system state I'm in at any given time—appreciate learning to track that!)."

  • "I had a wonderful experience observing how you listen during the demonstration, and the words and intonation you speak. After that, my Focusing that I'm doing alone has changed. It is hard to explain but after our one-on-one session and workshop I internalized your voice and intonation, and now when I'm focusing alone it helps me move forward."

FAQs

  • No. I will guide you through the Focusing process and no prior education in the practice is required.

  • I mostly do Gendlin’s classic six steps Focusing. I also will use empathic reflections if it feels helpful and you consent to it (this is a form of Janet Klein’s Interactive Focusing). If we work with a difficult part, then I will use some Presence Language, from Ann Weiser Cornell and Barbara McGavin’s Inner Relationship Focusing. Finally, I quite like to ask the felt sense for action steps. Some of this is inspired by Robert Lee’s Domain Focusing, but also from Otto Scharmer’s Theory U.

  • Yes, absolutely! Focusing can help process many issues, including trauma. It really comes down to if you feel safety in my presence and within yourself (via the Focusing attitude) to welcome what wants to come forward and be felt. I am a trauma-informed Focusing professional, having trained with Jan Winhall and her Felt Sense Polyvagal Model™ In some cases, I will recommend that you also work with a therapist.

  • The main tool we can use in Focusing Coaching sessions are the felt sense body cards. This is a tool I created to record the felt sense in a non-linear way in addition to using words/phrases to capture a Focusing session. We can also use my PUPA process if we are working on an issue that requires multiple Focusing sessions. Finally, I like using Power Point as a way to map dialogue or timelines of parts.
